It feels good to have MAP over with! There were only a few very minor glitches in taking the test on Chromebooks this year and overall, it went pretty smooth and we got a feel for what this new test will be like.
We have had MANY conversations at school. Now that MAP is over, school is NOT over...yet. :) We still have 3 full weeks. We will have another math test, take reading tests, and the end of the year writing prompt. And we still have a lot to learn! Keep your child feeling encouraged! We don't want them to "turn off" just yet! THANK YOU for all of your help and support!!! Here is what is coming up this week: Reading- We are finishing up covering and reviewing figurative language. Writing- Before MAP, students picked a destination out of a can and researched 4 things they could do if they went on a vacation there. Then students wrote a fictional narrative about a vacation they went on to their destination and included information about these attractions! We have been working on these for about 2 weeks and are finishing them up and making postcards from our destinations! Math- We are finishing up measurement and will review time, elapsed time, perimeter, volume, mass, and weight the last few days of this week. We are looking at testing towards the beginning of next week depending on our review of the items listed above! We will move onto a unit on representing and interpreting graphs next. Science- We are starting a new unit on the life cycle this week! Other Announcements: *Summer School forms are due by THIS Friday, May 1st. If you need an extra, call the office and we can get one to you! If you received a letter strongly recommending that your child go, please send the letter back marked "No" and signed even if you do not plan on having your child attend. *Our field trip to Ripley's Believe It or Not is on May 13th. Permission slip and $ is due by Monday, May 4th. We will not be allowing students to visit the gift shop during our visit. This is mainly due to time. We will be on a very tight schedule to get to see everything and then get to lunch before heading back to school at 2:30. It also cuts out trying to keep track of money/lost money/lost items purchased.
