Happy Leap Year! And welcome March! February was a great month, but I'm ready for spring to be here for good.
A few things that are going on for the rest of this week: Read-A-Thon Packets are due tomorrow. Have your student turn the packet and donations into me and I will turn them all in to the office. Our goal was 600 min or 10 hours. We chose this, because about an hour each day (or more) is spent reading in the classroom and the students would be responsible for reading some at home. Literacy Night is Tomorrow night at 5:30. There will be Backyard Burgers in the Gym available for purchase for dinner and each grade level will have a special literacy activity that you and your family can do! Come join in on all of the fun! School Store- I had originally had it planned to do this Friday. However, I am changing the plans a little and doing it NEXT Thursday (March 8). If you have stuff that you want to send in, you can start sending it in as soon as you would like! Candy was a big hit, green spiral writing notebooks, little toys. March 9th is a half day for students (Release at 12:30) and will begin this year's Spring Break! No school from March 12-16th. What's happening in our classroom: Your child will be bringing home the start to our Famous Scientist and Inventor project. The sheet they will bring home will be the basic information and where they will pick their first, second, and third choices for scientists. This will be due back on Monday, March 5th. Spelling- We have been trying a new little activity. From the idea of Mr. Roseburough, we have tried taking a "spelling test" on just our pattern and word wall words. The students see a question on the SMARTboard and key in their answer on their remote from a list of choices. If they get a 100%, they are excused from taking the written SPELLING TEST! They do still have to do the sentence dictation part of the test. If they miss 1 or more, they can look at what they missed, and study for the test on Friday's. So far, the class really enjoys this activity. It lets the students be hands on with something and use some neat pieces of technology.

I want to start by apologizing for my lack of communication for the last week. My daughter has been sick, so I was pre-occupied with keeping up with school, home, etc. (Why do I feel like I'm preaching to the choir right now? I know you ALL have been there, done that! And are probably PROS!) Now, the germs have attacked me...and Olivia is sick again. Go figure.
We had a great Valentine's party today. BIG, BIG, Thank you to Rebekah Brymer and Tahnee Puckett for organizing and putting it all together. The kids had so much fun and were left with an incentive to be good for the next few days or weeks! :) Writing-This week, we will have our spelling test on Thursday, due to there not being school on Friday. AND because we haven't had a snow day, there also won't be school on Monday in observance of President's Day! Enjoy your week! It's looking to be warmer than what it has been! Math- We have been studying geometry this week. Don't be nervous that there hasn't been homework. A good part of this unit is done on the SMART Board and we haven't had our usual workbook pages. We are ready to have another math test. As crazy as it seems, we are just in some shorter units right now. My plan is to do this Tuesday. I don't know how this will work since Tuesday will technically be a "Monday" after a LONG weekend. We may end up doing it Wednesday. No matter what, students WILL have a study guide and a decision by Thursday to review for our geometry test. Science- We are wrapping up the water cycle and have made posters with a nice non fiction paragraph showing we know how it works! I think that is all for now! Be sure to come to the Willard Tigers boy's game on Friday! It's Willard East night and we have some students involved that night and our Coach J. Wear your Willard East shirts (or any Willard wear) for support! |
