Obviously, the arrival of March excites me! Winter has seemed to drag on a bit over the past few weeks. I am ready for some sun and warmer weather! We have a fun week ahead! It is our Literacy Week! Be sure to check for our dress up days each day! Family Literacy Night-
Our annual Family Literacy Night is Tuesday, February 27th. There will be all kinds of fun activities and games that have do with our school-wide book, The One and Only Ivan! Come and go as you please between 6:00 and 7:00 and be sure to visit the Book Fair! Here is what we are working on the the classroom: Writing- Students will be finishing up their second and final opinion piece for 3rd quarter. Math- We are working on finding equivalent fractions and comparing fractions. We have been doing something called "Practice Buddy" in class. Their worksheets are started with me and they do a few interdependently in group with me and I check those. The rest they SHOULD be bringing home to show you and use for any extra practice as needed. :) Reading- We will review for our 3rd Quarter District Reading Assessment and take it Wednesday. Reading groups will look a little different for this week as I start giving some students the DRA before the end of 3rd quarter. The DRA is not required to be given this quarter, I just have a few that will need to take it. (It is only required to be given to every student during 1st and 4th quarters) Social Studies- We will be looking at producers and consumers for our economics unit this week! Upcoming Dates: * Feb 26-March 2: Book Fair All Week! (Open before school and after school until 4 and during Family Reading Night.) * Feb. 27- Family Reading Night from 6-7 *March 12-13-: School is IN session. These are snow makeup days. *March 22: School Skate Party at Skateland

After our snow day on Monday, I got a little off track with Spelling! Students will have List 17 for this week. I didn't find it fair that it was a short week and then I forgot to send it home. :)
Here is what we are working on this week- Writing- Students have finished up writing about their opinion of whether the Big Bad Wolf or the 3 Little Pigs are the innocent party(ies) after reading the book. This was our first published opinion piece as 3rd graders! They are hanging up outside of our classroom! Be sure to check them out when you are in the building or at Family Reading Night (Feb 27.) Math- We have been learning about using fractions to represent parts of a whole. We will assess this topic on Thursday (Feb 15). Be watching for practice and a study guide to come home next week! (We are still aiming for this even with the "ice day". I will let you know if we plan to push this back!) Reading- This week we looked at biographies and read a biography about Walt Disney (Because their teacher is a TOTAL Disney Geek). They all loved it! The book is from a series called "Who Was (insert famous person's name)" . It's geared towards 3rd-5th graders. Social Studies- We have been talking about Economics in SS and making pretend budgets. We will talk about choices and opportunity cost next week! Valentine's Party- Our Valentine's Party will be on Wednesday, February 14th. Lists of names of friends in our class came home today! Students may make a box or a bag to collect their valentines. The box or bag must be able to fit on their desk and fit in their backpack (for bus riders). If students choose to pass out cards, we have talked about how we must have one for each friend in our class. We also discussed some safe candies (since many times valentines come with candy these days) and candy alternatives that EVERYONE in our class can enjoy since we have some food allergies. Skittles, Airheads, and Jolly Ranchers are all safe candies we can all enjoy!!!! Please send in $3 for party supplies! The moms who help plan go above and beyond and this is a small way we can all chip in for the party! The party will be at 2:30 and end at the end of the day! Come join us! Upcoming Dates: Feb 14: Valentines Party @ 2:30 (Please send in $3 for supplies) Feb 16: 1/2 Day! Students will get out at 12:30 Feb 23: Family Reading Night! Come join us for some fun activities! |
