Language Arts- This week, we will continue to work on Fairy Tales. We are also looking at using voice in writing and expressing our personalities and humor through the way we write.
For reading, we are finishing up biographies and have started doing some practice for the upcoming MAP Test in April. We will continue to work on MAP practice, in groups and as a class, for the next 3 weeks until we begin taking the MAP test. Math- This week, we are learning about elapsed time and solving word problems about elapsed time. Students will be able to solve elapsed time to the nearest hour and 5 minutes. At the end of the week, we will switch things up and start learning about volume and measuring volume. Quiz your child at home to get the used to telling time on an analog clock (not a digital clock). Use phrases such as "quarter after, half past, and quarter 'til" to get them in the habit of telling time on their own. Science- This week we will be observing water and how it changes from one state of matter to another and measuring the temperature of water in its different forms. Upcoming announcements: * Friday is 1/2 day. Students will release at 12:35 while teachers attend a professional development. *The Spring music concert is April 15 at the High School. It begins at 7:00. *Send back spring pictures if you do not wish to purchase them! If you do want to purchase some (or all of them) send back the unwanted sheets along with the money. You can also pay online- just don't forget to include the "code" that proves you paid and send the envelope back in. I think that is all for now! Have a great week!

Here is what is coming up next week:
Writing- This week, we started working on fairy tales and adapting fairy tales as writers. So far, this unit seems to be a hit! I can't blame the kids for loving it. It's fun, they get to use their imaginations and make things up, we get to read traditional and some fractured fairy tales...the list could go on and on. Next week, we will continue to work on planning, adapting and drafting fairy tales. Reading- We have been studying about biographies this week (and before break) and reading a biography about Martin Luther King Jr. We will continue with that as a class next week. In groups, we will begin doing some test prep to prepare for MAP. We will be taking the MAP Test April 22-24 and April 29-May1. We will only be testing in the mornings. Please do not schedule any doctor's appointments or plan to be gone those weeks! We will be done by lunch each day, so if you need to get your student then it won't interrupt testing. I will send home more information about the test in a few weeks when it is a little closer! Math- We wrapped up fractions this week. We were supposed to before break, but we needed a little more review on equivalent fractions before testing. We tested today and I am anxious to see how they did. Tests will come home on Tuesday of next week. Next week, we will begin our unit on measurement. For the next week we will focus on telling time to the nearest minute and solving word problems with time intervals in minutes. Other Announcements: Spring Concert in on April 15 at 7:00. It's going to be a good one, as always and I am excited to see them perform! Spring Pictures: Be sure to send your pictures or the sheets of pictures you are not buying back! Or, send in money for the pictures or sheets of pictures that you are buying! Have a great weekend! |
