MAP IS OVER! The students did a great job and worked hard. I am VERY, VERY proud of their hard work!
The last 4 weeks of school will be just as busy. Here is what we will be working on this week: Writing- We have finished reviewing writing narratives. We have a few short lessons we will review next week and then we will go ahead a work on our 4th quarter writing prompt, which will be to write another narrative. Reading- We will be working in our reading groups and I will also begin administering the DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment) to every student. Spelling- We took a little spelling vacation while we took the MAP. We will start back on our words for the next 3 weeks of school. We will be working on List 22. Math- We have been learning about fractions and comparing fractions over the last week. Next week we will continue working on comparing fractions and begin learning about equivalent fractions. Science- students will be learning about the life cycle of a plant. Other Announcements: Field Trip- This year we will be visiting the George Washington Carver Museum in Diamond, Mo on May 4th. The cost for the trip is $7. Your child should have brought home a permission slip last week. Let me know if you need another one or you can click HERE and print one off. Things are getting busy around here! We are to the part of the school where you blink and poof! It's over!
Writing- This quarter, we are going back and reviewing narrative writing. We will review skills we learned 1st quarter and throughout the year. Their last writing prompt for 3rd grade will be a personal narrative. Reading- Groups and Daily 5 will look a little different for a couple of weeks as we work on some MAP prep. This also gives students a break from doing what we have been doing all year. Math- This week we will wrap up the 2nd part of our multiplication/ division. There are still many students who do not know their facts by memory. PLEASE be working on memorizing facts at home. This makes their work from here on out (And in grades to come) SO much easier and your child will be able to work more efficiently if they know their facts by heart. I have sets of fact cards if you want to check out a set for your child to practice. Please remember to return them after a week or so (or just check-in and see if there is anyone waiting to check them out) I currently only have 6 sets to loan to students. My most recent sets are from Mardel and were 2.99. I have seen them at Walmart in the book/ education aisle in the Toy Section if you are looking to purchase your own set. MAP- One major thing that we are preparing for is the 3rd grade portion of the MAP (Missouri Assessment Program). In 3rd grade, we will only take the math and ELA (English and Language Arts) portions. We will take the math portion Friday, April 15th and the ELA portion Thursday, April 21st and Friday, April 22. Attendance is extremely important these 3 days as well as being at school on time. We will start the test on these days at 9:00 am. How can you help prepare your child?
