Although next week is a short week, there is a lot going on in the next few days! Math: We have talked about it all week and tomorrow we will take our end of the unit test. Here are a few of the things students will be preforming: Solving two-step word problems, input/output tables (number patterns), solving multiplication and division problems, finding the missing factor in a multiplication problem. We will start our next unit Monday and will be focusing on using patterns in multiplication and division. Writing: This week we have been talking about "wondering" and how that can lead us to learning. We will continue to use our wonders as ideas for writing Monday and after returning from Thanksgiving break. We will also have our weekly spelling test tomorrow over list 3. There WILL NOT be spelling words next week due to the short week. TOMORROW is "Duck Dynasty Day". Students can dress up like a character from the show, but do not have to. If they dress up, please bring in at least 1 non-perishable food item for a food drive we are collecting for the Willard Food Pantry. The class that collects the most items will get extra P.E. with Coach J next week. Next week, we will only have school on Monday and Tuesday (all day). School will be out Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday in observance of the holiday. Last but not least, I am going to try a new program called "Remind 101". This programs sends texts to subscribed parents about reminders for our class. If you would like to sign up, click on the link below! It's super easy. I never get your number. I will only be able to send out reminder texts from this program! I think that is all for now! Have a wonderful week and weekend! If you are planning to brave the cold and attend the Willard Christmas Parade Saturday, be on the lookout for the Frisco Mini-Storage Train! If I spot ya, I might throw you a couple of pieces of extra candy! Here is what is coming up at Willard East Next week:
Spirit t-shirt forms AND yearbook forms have gone home! Check your child's backpack for these items! The t-shirts look great! I'm excited to see some of this new "Willard Wear" around East. Yearbooks are available for order. They will not be delivered until the end of the year. If you order online, you can personalize your child's yearbook with their name and a clip art...plus just save the hassle of remembering sending a check in. You can return the order slip with a CHECK. No cash will be accepted. Next Friday is "Duck Dynasty Day". Dig out your camo and dress your child up like the crew of Duck Dynasty! (Can you tell I am not a DD watcher?) Math- We are reviewing standards that were not mastered by the majority of the class right now. We are aiming to take our end of the unit summative next Friday and Monday, November 25th at the latest. Writing- We will continue to work on informational writing. This week we looked at good beginnings and how to hook your reader, even in an informational piece. Since we weren't supposed to have spelling with Common Core, I took down all of my spelling lists off of the website to avoid confusion. Now, we are doing spelling and I am working on getting those lists re-linked so you can have access to them should you need to. Science- We are starting our first unit of science and are exploring space! Next week, we will look at the Sun as a star and learn about the patterns we see daily because of the Sun. P.E. We have a new specials schedule and our class now goes to P.E. on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please be sure that your child is wearing tennis shoes. If they are wearing boots or slip on shoes, they have to take them off, making it hard for them to run, play, and learn. Coach F (Coach J's student teacher) has also informed the class that Mondays are a work out day. Students need proper dress and can bring a water bottle that closes with them to class. I think that is all for now! Have a wonderful weekend! What a wonderful day it has been at Willard East! We started off the day honoring our veterans with breakfast and then our assembly. Thank you to everyone who donated goods to the breakfast and invited a veteran to come! I think it is so wonderful to show our students that their life they have today didn't come for "free" and to teach them to thank a veteran.
The rest of this week should be pretty normal. Math: We will continue to review standards that the class struggled with on our post formative test that we took last week. Right now, our big focus is multi-step word problems with more than one operation. We will use most of this week to review the standard associated with that and practice solving those types of problems. MANY are still struggling with multiplication facts right now. Students should know these by now. 15-20 minutes of practice at home nightly will help a lot. Please continue to practice. If your child already knows them, review is just as important. Writing: We will continue to write informational texts and will be focusing on how to start those. I just received an email that the bounce house reward for the fundraiser will be tomorrow afternoon. Your child probably received a certificate a few weeks ago if they won this prize. Our grade level will go from 1:30-2:15. Last thing, the weather is turning COLD this week. Please send your child in warm clothes and a coat. We will go outside fo I think that is all for this week! I hope you all have a wonderful week! Wow. The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind with conferences, parties, Red Ribbon Week, and other activities! It's hard to believe that is already November!
Remember that there is NO SCHOOL TOMORROW, Tuesday November 5th. Teachers have professional development with other area districts. We will be back in school on Wednesday. Wednesday is picture retake day. If you were not happy with your child's portraits and the package is still complete (not cut or passed out), send the portraits back with your student and Lifetouch will retake their picture. Math- This week in math we are wrapping up input/output tables and then will start reteaching standards that were difficult in this unit based on an assessment given last week. Spelling- Your student recieved a letter to bring home last Friday about spelling. We started a list today in class. Each Monday, your student should write their words correctly in their agenda to ensure that they always have a spelling list at school and home (since their agenda should be with them). We will test on Fridays, or the last day of the school week if it is a short week. There will be some weeks that are short enough due to holidays that we may pass. I will let you know as those come up. Veteran's Day Assembly is Friday morning following our Veteran's Breakfast. Come and enjoy the assembly if you would like to join us or bring a veteran that you would like to honor! Hope to see you there! I think that is all for now! Have a wonderful week! |
