December 8-12
I can't believe we are about 2 weeks out from Christmas! We're staying VERY busy in our class, as I'm sure you all can relate to at this time of year! Here is what is going on this week in 3rd Grade... Writing- We have been wrapping up our informationall writing unit. Last week, we went over the process of writing an informational piece VERY carefully and wrote one as a class. This week, students have been working on the writing prompt independently to assess how well they can write an informational piece on their own. Reading- This week, we are talking about main idea and supporting details. We are looking for the main idea in fiction and non-fiction passages. I am not pulling groups this week. I am working on reading assessments for report cards during this time. Groups will resume Monday as usual for our last week before break. Math- This unit of math was kind of a beast! It was longer and more drawn out with the holidays. The content was a little harder as well with the properties of multiplication, two step word problems, and input and output boxes! We have spent this week reviewing and are planning to assess these skills tomorrow. Science- We are continuing to work on the water cycle and learn about the phases of this cycle. Other Announcements: *Please send in your $2 for the holiday party. This helps simplify the planning process for our homeroom parent! Our winter party will be Thursday, Dec. 18 at 2:45 if you would like to come and celebrate with us! * We are still collecting items for our H.U.G.S Tree. (hats, underwear, gloves, and scarvess) If you are able to send in any of these new items and your child can add them to our tree! These items will go directly to our students at Willard East. All items that do not go in the holiday baskets will be donated to the Willard Clothing Bank. * Next Friday will be a 1/2 Day. Students will dismiss at 12:35. *We will be out of school December 22-January 2nd for Winter Break.

It's hard to believe it's already December! This year seems to be flying by! Here is a look at what is going on this week:
Writing- We will be going over our informative pieces that we wrote as a class and the steps we took to write them. Next week, students will take our 2nd quarter writing assessment and will write an informative piece on their own. Reading- This week we are talking about author's purpose and the 3 reasons why an author writes. Math- Yesterday we started working on In and Out boxes using addition and subtraction. I am so happy to say that the class did a WONDERFUL job with these! We will continue to work on in and out boxes this week and will be ready to assess this unit at the beginning of next week. Other Announcements: *Our school is hosting a "Santa Shop" next week. Some information came home last night about this store. It gives students a chance to buy for family members when they might not usually get to go Christmas shop (because they're always with that family member!) Our chance to shop is next Monday, Dec. 8. *Please help us decorate our "Tree of H.U.G.S." Hats, Underwear, Gloves, & Scarves! These items will go directly to students at Willard East. All items that do not go in holiday baskets will be given to the Willard Clothing Bank to help the Willard Care to Learn Foundation. *Our class winter party will be Thursday, Dec. 18 @2:45. To help simplify planning, if you would please send in $2 for your student to help with the cost of our party (food, game, craft). You may start sending in your money at any time. *Friday, Dec 19- Early Dismiss@ 12:35 |
