Happy Winter Break to your students and your family! So crazy to think that we are 1/2 way through our year! We've had a lot of fun and have learned A LOT. I'm just as excited for our second semester! But your kiddos have worked hard. It is time for them to enjoy being kids and enjoy some time to relax and play.
Thank you to EVERYONE for your help with our party. We had a lot of fun eating pizza, cookies, fruit, and making a craft. Ok...we STARTED to make a craft. Planning a party is a hard deal. You never know how fast they will eat and such so it's hard to know if you have planned too much or too little until it's happening. In our case today, it was too much. (My fault!) Erica Hopkins planned an awesome craft that your child has brought home to finish! What to do with those two pieces of felt? Weave them! Here are the visual directions:(These may show up better on a computer or iPad than a phone)
Your child brought home two pieces of cut felt and a pipe cleaner to make into this ADORABLE (or awesome and manly for the boys) little basket! A fun little craft to finish over the next couple of days and gift or hang on your tree!
Thank you Erica for all of your work with this! Such an awesome craft! (And thanks to all of the moms who so willingly picked up sicssors to start cutting the felt to make sure each child had felt to take home!)
Veteran's Day Pictures
Last month we celebrated Veteran's Day with our Veteran's Day Breakfast and Assembly. Our own Julie Austin so graciously took pictures that were sent home this week. One copy was printed per family. Below is a link where you can access those photos and order more. Use the code:Veterans2016 to order more prints at cost/ no markups.
Thank you, Julie for giving your time and resources for these treasures! Priceless memories!
Thursday, January 5th: First Day Back From Break
Friday, January 6th: December Tiger Pride- BE SURE TO WEAR YOUR FRIDAY SHIRT:)
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY! THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR CHILDREN WITH ME EACH DAY!!!!
Here are some updates for our week!
Students are finishing up their informational writing about a space topic of their choice. As they finish, they will be able to start a Google Slide Presentation about their topic! (Using the information from their report)
We will be reteaching and restesting over a few standards that were a little tricky on our 2nd quarter reading assessment.
I will also be doing DRA's with SOME students before break. **I will not DRA each student. Only those right below or right on grade level**
This week we will be starting a new topic! This topic isn't one of our "major standards" for 3rd grade and we will be working with representing and interpreting data. This is a pretty short (and fun!) topic and we will test by next Monday.
Our class party will be next Wednesday, Dec. 21st from 11:45-12:30. We will be having a pizza party and lunch in the classroom. Students will need to bring $2.00 each to cover the cost of the pizza. I have also included a sign-up for some other items if you would be able to sign up and bring an item for our party.
Just click HERE. <---------------
I included a few items for our morning. We will do a little "Read-In" during our morning time and read some Christmas books and watch a Christmas movie (if we have time), drink hot chocolate, and eat candy canes. Don't feel pressured to come to this part. This is just part of our fun day that we can enjoy our class and Christmas before we leave for break. The REAL party will be at 11:45 ;)
**Wednesday, Decemeber 21st is also a 1/2 day for students. They will dismiss at 12:35 for Winter Break. School will resume after the new year on Thursday, January 5th.
December 14th: Christmas donations due (if you signed up to help a local family in need, these are due on the 14th)
December 21: Winter Party/ 1/2 Day
December 22-January 4th: WINTER BREAK! NO SCHOOL!
January 5th: First Day Back!!!!
January 13th: Student report cards emailed to you
HOW is it already Decemeber! This year is absolutley FLYING but I am LOVING it. I am enjoying each and every one of your kiddos so much. I always miss my own babies when I'm at work. (Don't we all?!) But I also miss your kiddos over the breaks and on the weekends when we aren't at school! They are sweet, smart, and I am having a lot of fun with them.
Here is what is coming up this week:
We had a great fall but the temperatures are starting to feel more like the time of year it really is. Please start sending a coat and any cold weather accessories with your child to school. We will go outside if it is 32 or above (actual temp and wind chill).
We have started our 2nd non-fiction writing piece! Students have picked a topic about space and have done a tiny bit of research. This week, we will have more time to collect facts and information and start writing our papers.
(Our first piece was a book about an animal they chose! Those will be coming home by the end of the week!)
Students took their 2nd Quarter District Writing Assessment on Friday. This week, we will talk about comparing more than one text and reteaching and retesting any standards that need a little extra work. :)
We are in our 6th topic of math. This topic is applying addition and multiplication to find area. This week we will cover our last two lessons and test by Friday. I will send a study guide home on Wednesday. This is just for extra practice and not required.
We have started our unit on government. This week we will learn about some of our national symbols and what they stand for.
Winter Party- Our winter party will be on Wednesday, Dec. 21st. This is our half day before students get out for winter break. If you have a wish or an idea for this party, let me know ASAP. ;) Otherwise, Be watching for a signup coming out in the next week or so!
Christmas Donations- Each year, our school collects items for local families that need help during the holidays. If you are interested in donating some items to help these children and families out, please click HERE. Donated items need to be returned to Willard East by December 14th.
