Well, it's here! This Wednesday and Thursday, 3rd grade will be taking the MAP Test. This year is filled with unknowns! This year students will take the test online instead of with pencil and paper. In past years, the MAP has tested over our old standards, the GLE's. The new test now tests over the updated Common Core Standards.
We have done a lot of practice and have had discussions in class about students can be ready even though there is not really a way we can "study" for this test! Every year, we always get many questions from parents about how they can help their child prepare. Here is how you can help prepare your child for this week! * Get a Good Night's Sleep! Make sure they get a good night's rest! Be sure that students have a consistent bed time this week and that they are going to bed at a decent hour. * Eating Breakfast- Eat a healthy breakfast that will give them energy (avoiding sugary cereals, donuts, syrup covered pancakes...you know, the good stuff! ;)) We have talked about what sugar does to your body and it often leaves us feeling sleepy and hungry LONG before lunch time! We also talked about NOT telling mom or dad that you want/ need scrambled eggs 10 minutes before the bust comes! ;) *Having a positive attitude! Let your child know that they will do great and to try their best! Having a positive attitude about the test and encouraging your child is one of the best ways to prepare them! *Be on Time!! We will begin testing at 9:00 each day. Once we have started testing, our doors are locked and any late students will have to go to another room and take the test at another time. This is to help not disrupt other test takers and there is quite a bit of direction given by the teacher to get started. I know they will do great! We have a room full of 22 little smarties!! Other Announcements for the week! * This week we will have our Tiger Pride Assembly for the month of April! It will start at 2:30 and will be in the Gym if you would like to come join us!!! If you have any Box Tops, be sure to trim those down and send them in! *We will be sending home our permission slip for our 3rd Grade field trip this week! We will be traveling to Ripley's Believe It or Not in Branson, Mo on May 13! The cost for each child is $7.
