So, if March comes in like a lion, say like... an ice or snow storm, then will it go out like a lamb, right? We can only hope! It's hard to believe next week is the last week before Spring Break with all of the winter weather talk buzzing around! BUT, we still will enjoy our week and have a few things in store! (See the "Other Announcement" section)
Writing- We will begin wrapping up our unit on persuasive writing next week. We will work on revising our introductions, writing a strong conclusion, and then we will take the end of the unit/quarter prompt on Wednesday. Students will pick something they feel strongly about and try to persuade their reader using the knowledge they have gained this quarter. Reading- We have started talking about biographies in our whole group reading lesson and will continue with that next week. I will be focusing on wrapping up a few reading groups and working on reading assessments during our guided reading groups. Math- We took our Unit 5 Post-Formative. This is not the end of the unit test. This test shows where the students are at this point and what they have learned. Although, our lessons have been more hands on and the class has probably enjoyed them more, the skills are much harder and we still have quite a bit of work to do. Next week, we will be working on equivalent fractions. Students not only need to be able to recognize equivalent fractions but be able to change common fractions (such as 1/2) to an equivalent fraction to add. (We worked on this last week) Here is the standard that shows us what we need to learn and work on:
At this point, we probably will not test this unit this quarter. These standards should show up on the 4th quarter report card, as we are not ready to test and move on out of this unit yet. Social Studies: Today, we had our class store! It was an exciting time as students came up to shop! We had some thoughtful shoppers and some impulse buyers! Prices reflected a much higher number than what was expected. We talked about this was due to "supply and demand" and those wonderful items that everyone wanted, were in low supply, so they had a much higher price. Although, we will start to move on out of our economics unit, we will continue to do our "Classroom Economy" through the month of March. Other Announcements: *Book Fair is open! The Book Fair is up and running! Students may visit the Book Fair before school, during recess, and on most days after school after 4:00. Students need to check in with their teacher first (if it is at a time when students are being dismissed to the classrooms), have morning work and their agenda filled out, and money to shop. (This is to avoid extra traffic and just wandering around) It will also be open on Family Reading Night, which is this coming Thursday, March 6th! *Picture Day is this Tuesday! We will take spring individuals and class pictures! *As mentioned before, Family reading night is Thursday! Hot dogs and hamburgers start at 5:30 and activities at 6:00! Come join us for an evening full of literacy activities and Charlotte's Web! *Half Day on Friday! School will release at 12:40. Happy Spring Break!!!
