SO much has been going on and I think November is always one of the fastest months! Between our Fall Break and Thanksgiving, I feel like November is over in a flash! I hope you all had a nice fall break with your children and were able to relax...and adjust to the time change! (A big high five for Daylight Savings ending over the break!!!)
Here is what is coming up for the next week! Writing- Students are finishing up writing about an animal of their choice. We will finish up by Wednesday (or before) and move on to writing about a planet since we are wrapping up our space unit. Students are working on making headings to help organize their writing and writing a main idea with clear, supporting details for each heading. This unit also focuses on teaching students to take notes and rewrite the facts they find in their own words, and to write to inform their audience. Reading: In writing we have been working on non-fiction. And since reading and writing go "hand in hand" what better time to cover non-fiction reading that at this time! This week we will focus on finding the main idea and supporting it with details from the text. Math- We have wrapped up Topic 4 and started Topic 5 on Friday. This topic will cover building students fluency with multiplying and dividing. We have been talking a lot about making sure that we are practicing at home and we will continue to talk about this. It doesn't have to a long period of time..in the car on the way to dinner, practice, church, etc. While you make dinner, or getting ready for bed. Throw a few facts out and if they miss them, once they know the correct answer, have them repeat the whole problem to you slowly, three times. (ex: "Three times six equals eighteen. Three times six equals eighteen. Three times six equals eighteen." ) Science/ SS We are finishing up our unit on space. This week students will take a quick assessment about the sun, shadows( how they look and change throughout the day- based on the position of the sun) and revolution and rotation. Then, we will move on to our new unit about government. We will discuss and learn about some of our national symbols and the three branches of government. Upcoming dates: November 17th: Picture Re-takes November 23-25th: Thanksgiving Break- No School
