What's going on this week?!
Writing- We are finishing up writing another piece of our personal narratives. On Wednesday, Students will complete their writing prompt for the end of the quarter. That piece of writing will show your child's growth as a writer this quarter with personal narratives . The prompt will be completed on Wednesday and independently so students can show what they know. Reading- Today, a letter with your child's DRA (Diagnostic Reading Assessment) went home. It has your child's DRA level and where they fall on the reading continuum. We use this to help place your child in the correct reading group and help direct instruction for them in class. It is also VERY important that your child is reading daily. Students need to be reading at home for continued growth. Check your child's backpack for the letter. We will begin guided reading groups this week. Today we talked about expectations with our reading groups and reviewed our Daily 5 activities and how important it is that we are on task during that time. Math- For the two weeks we have been learning about multiplication. Today we started to introduce division and putting objects into equal groups. Students are learning strategies to solve multiplication problems but we have really been talking about knowing our multiplication facts by heart. Students will have an easier time learning and using these operations if they know their facts. Our stanadards do not allow time to stop and only learn multiplication facts in class like they did years ago. It is VERY important that your child is practicing their facts at home. It doesn't have to be an extreme amount of time, Just quizzing them 15 minutes a night will make a huge difference. And as I mentioned in last week's post about using multiplication games on Mrs. Uckele's Website is another fun way for your child to review! Science- Last week, we finished up our unit on matter and energy and briefly introduced our new unit about the scientific process. We will continue to learn about this process this week and talk about forming testable questions! Other News: *Fundraisers were due LAST Friday. If you still have one or a coupon book at home that was not sold, please return it ASAP. Willard East is charged for any unreturned coupon books and your child will not be able to attend their class field trip if it is not returned. *This Friday is the end of the quarter and is 1/2 day release. Students will get out at 12:40 and teachers will have a 1/2 day work day and professional development. *Our class should be running the mile this Thursday in P.E.
