I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! The students all sounded like they had a nice break and we are now getting into the swing of things again!
Last Wednesday, we began our multiplication unit in math. We do our "Rocket Math" series to help learn the facts that the students will need to learn for 3rd grade. You can also work with your student at home by quizing them while you are driving, cooking dinner, etc. Just a few minutes you have to spare to learn a new fact or two and recall some that they already know will help them out! We also began a new social studies unit. We will be talkng about economics for the next few weeks. With this we will have a "Tiger Economy" going on in the third grade. Students can "earn" money for being in class, getting compliments from adults, having a clean desk, getting 100% on a test, having their agenda signed every day for the week, or earning a purple Tiger Token at lunch. Students can also have to pay a "fine" for things such as: sharpening a pencil after the bell, having missing work, needing to leave the classroom after a designated restroom break, flipping a card, not having their agenda signed, being off task in class or a line, and for not checking in. Students have made their own wallets and are responsible for keeping track of their money for an upcoming store activity that we will have at the end of the unit. I will keep you posted on some help I might need with that activity. I think that is all for this week. (Or right now.) We have been talking A LOT about washing hands and keeping our hands off of our faces. There have been a lot germs making their way around town lately! STAY HEALTHY! Be sure to send back the back page of your child's grade card signed! Have a great week! Mrs. Letterman
