Hello again from 3rd grade!
Here are a few things going on this week (and a few weeks after)that you might want to take note of. _Tiger Pride is this Friday at 2:30! Have your child wear their school shirt and show some Tiger spirit! Valentines parties will be on Valentines Day. They will begin at 2:30. Watch for more information concerning boxes, help, etc. That following Friday, it is Willard East Night at the boys basketball game! Wear your Willard shirts and come cheer on our boys and East’s very own Coach J! This week in: Reading: We will continue working on MAP practice packets that we started last Friday. We took a few days to discuss how we would answer the questions, strategies, and correct our work. We also have looked at main idea this week and will continue to work with that for the remainder of the week. Writing: Today, we did a writing prompt about hero’s. Students did the prompts in one setting (like district assessments or a state assessment is given). This week we will start a new poetry unit! I’m really excited for students to dig into reading and becoming poets! Math: Today we begin…division. Yes, I think I saw fear on a few faces, but division is like a fun multiplication puzzle and they will learn this week to find the missing factor. Of course, you need to know the other factor to be able to use it. We will also continue to work on and review facts and our strategies and tricks we have learned. We are looking at having the summative test for this unit next Tuesday. (**THIS IS TENTATIVE AND COULD CHANGE**) We will begin our next unit the following day. Social Studies: Our economy is booming! Fines are collected, today I will collect their first tax and they will have the choice to pay for insurance. If they pay and a “natural disaster” occurs, it may be covered or partially covered. If they don’t pay for the insurance, of course it will all be out of “pocket”. Students also have the chance to play the desk lottery. The desk lottery is $2 to play and is optional. If they play, they’re name will be entered into the lottery for a chance to win a tiger cash prize. We are still collecting items for our store next week. You can find what we need HERE in a previous post. I think that is all for now! Have a great week!
