I hope everyone is having a wonderful start to their week! Here is what we will be learning in our classroom this week!
Writing- We will continue to learn how to write a persuasive paper/speech in class. Students are working on forming am opinion and using it to persuade. We will also start writing a persuasive paper to publish and put on display in our hallway! Reading- We have continued to read as detectives in reading. We are reading a mystery as a class and are collecting clues as we read and making predictions about suspects. Students are carrying over what we are learning as a class and using it in reading groups. Math- We are wrapping up learning about triangles and quadrilaterals. On Thursday, we will begin learning about...FRACTIONS! Some fun activities could be using measuring cups and utensils to practice and talking about how many parts make up a whole. I am also on the search for some fun computer games to add to the "Student Links" page for students to use for extra fun practice! Social Studies- You may have heard the exciting news! We have started our economics unit!!! You actually have most likely heard that your child is now earning "money" at school and will have the opportunity to spend it at our class store in February. Students earn money for being at school on time, making good choices, earning a "drop in the bucket", turning in homework, or helping out in class. Students can also "pay a fine" for having to sharpen a pencil during a lesson time, use the restroom during a lesson time, or flipping a card. If you have extra individual wrapped candy from the holidays or small toys you do not want anymore (like the plethora of fast food toys that build up after a few months), feel free to send them in for us to "sell" in our class store. This week, we will be focusing on wants and needs for our lessons in social studies. Other announcements: *Mrs. Hillenburg and I will be starting a new Willard University class February 4th. It will be for girls and it will be all about being healthy. We will have a lot of fun playing and learning how to stay healthy! Join us by signing up! There is NO enrollment fee this semester- so it's free! The class will be on Tuesdays from 3:45- 4:45.
