This is the only time of the year I WANT snow. I want it on or around Christmas. After December 31st, I'm ready for it to be spring again.
Here is what is going on the rest of the week: In math, we have started a new unit that covers area. So far, the students have really seemed to enjoy it. We also got to use Cheez-It crackers to find area and then eat our manipulative after...so that MAY have something to do with it! Today we started to talk about how to find the area of a polygon and how to find the area where there is not a grid (or square units) drawn in. Tomorrow and Friday, we will talk about how to break apart a rectangle (or another polygon) into smaller rectangles and use the distributive property to solve for the area. Here are a couple of LearnZillion Videos that we will use in class and your child and you can use if they need some extra help. http://learnzillion.com/student/lessons/1171-find-area-by-breaking-down-a-rectangle-into-smaller-rectangles http://learnzillion.com/lessons/372-apply-the-distributive-property-using-area-models In writing, we are focusing on writing informational paragraphs using a topic sentence and 3 supporting detail sentences. Students will complete their 2nd quarter summative over informational writing next Wednesday. If you are interested in sponsoring a child during our Willard East Christmas Drive, you can get in touch with Mrs. Woodall at (417)742-4639 or email her at [email protected]. She will be happy to get you set up with a child in need this Holiday Season. Thursday December 19, Christmas Party Read-In Details. A third grade tradition is our annual Christmas read-in!
