Welcome to Spring? While this weather has been a little crazy, we have been very busy preparing for spring in third grade.
We would like to welcome Mrs. Holly Whisler to our classroom! We are blessed to have Mrs. Whisler student teaching with us for the next 5 weeks. She completed her first placement with Mrs. Kramer in 1st grade. Welcome , Mrs. Whisler! We are so happy to have you! Communication Arts: After Spring Break, we are working more and more MAP prep into our day as we draw close to our testing dates. We will MAP test April 23-25th for Communication Arts and April 30-May 2nd for Math. Stay tuned for more MAP info! Math: Last week we finished up our unit on patterns and tested and started a new unit on fractions. We specifically looked at parts of a whole last week and got to end the week with a tasty math activity! Ask your child about numerators, denominators, and what we used M&M's for! If you have not sent your pictures, picture money, or signed grade cards (ONLY the back sheet) back, PLEASE do so as soon as possible! There is NO SCHOOL this coming Friday or Monday for the Easter weekend!! I hope you have a great week!

What happened to February? I feel like I blinked and it was suddenly the first day of March! We continue to be very busy in room 403. We have started to look at more and more MAP prep for the upcoming test at the end of April, as well as our regular learning activities.
Math- Today we wrapped up a small unit on geometry. On Monday, we will start right in with patterns and that will be another short unit and we should be ready to test over that unit by the week after break. Writing- we have been working on writing to a writing prompt as they will have to on the MAP test this year. We also have been doing some MAP prep items to get the students used to what the test will look like and the procedure. Science- Students will test over Matter and Energy on Tuesday. We reviewed today and will a little on Monday. We have already started talking about probability and after our unit on Matter and Energy, we will keep our focus on probability. Your child should have brought home their Read-a-thon packets this week! Be sure to be collecting those pledges and donations! AND KEEP READING!!!! All money is due next Friday, March 8th. Remember there are A LOT of great prizes, including a bounce house for East IF we raise $4,000! (And it's been done!) Family Reading Night is next Tuesday from 5:30-7:30. There will be Backyard Burgers and hot dogs for dinner (Hamburger meal $5, Hot Dog $4) starting at 5:30 and family reading activities from 6:00-7:30. 3rd Quarter ends next Friday! Students will be dismissed at 12:30 on Friday, March 8th and SPRING BREAK is the following week, March 11th-15th! (Now just send some spring this way!!) I think that is all for this week! Have a great weekend! |
