Happy Friday! Things are going well here in room 303! We are settling into our routines and days are already flying by since we have more of a regular schedule. Here are a few reminders for next week:
Dojo- Next week, we will do our first week of Dojo Rewards. Please initial your child's calendar each evening. This helps keep communication about your child's days. If you have not signed up for Dojo, I have sent home another instruction on how to sign up! It's easy and free! Fundraiser- Students are excited about the emoji's! Thank you for all of the support for East! Fundraiser packets are due no later than TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6th. NO SCHOOL- Students will not have class next Friday, September 2nd. The teachers will be in a math training. They will also be out Monday, September 5th for Labor Day! Earbuds- If your child does not yet have earbuds or earphones from the 3rd grade school supply list, be sure to still send those in. We use our Chromebooks quite a bit throughout the day and they need them for most apps/sites that we use.

I really feel like our class had a good first two days together! I HOPE your child feels the same! The first two days is a LOT of me talking and teaching expectiations with some fun getting to know everyone activities thrown in there as much as possible.
Monday we will start inching our way towards our regular routine! Here is some need to know information for the week and the rest of the school year! Snack! Besides recess and P.E., this is the next most asked about activity. I understand that during summer, kids have a little more access to snacks and are able to graze a little more if they're not in a classroom! AND we all just think a little better if we aren't starving! Your child will be able to eat a small snack during our reading block. Students are allowed to bring a small, healthy(ish) snack that they can easily keep and eat at their desk. I realize it's not super easy to send fresh food for your child to munch on but healthy- no cookies, chips, candy. If they were to grab something like that, I generally just ask them to save it and they can eat it at lunch. :) **We do have a tree nut allergy in our class. Please do not send any snacks containing tree nuts. ** **We eat snack during a work time, so if your child doesn't have a snack, that is just fine!!! Classroom Managment: By the third grade, you have probably become aquatined with a few of the forms of classroom managment teachers use. This year, I am planning to use Class Dojo. Most of you are probably familiar with this system. If you are not, it is a program (an app) I have downloaded on my phone and iPad. I can give students positive points for doing beyond what is expectded throughout the day. If they were doing something unexpected, they could also lose a point. My rule is I usually give them a verbal warning before a point is taken. (Extreme circumstances a point may be taken at the time of the incident- hitting or doing something a little more serious than needing some redirection for talking in line or class.) I am not always the best at giving a TON of points because that would require me to just always be on a device and I often lay it down and forget to pick it up and give points in the middle of something. ;) If your child has 0 points, that is great! That means, they are doing exactly what they are expected to do. If they earn a point in an area, that means they are going beyod the expected behavior. The beauty is that you can log on or download the app and see your child's points throughout the day. You can also message me if needed (although, email or phone is easier) and at the end of the day your student will record their points on a monthly calendar. I just ask that you initial each night. We will start using Class Dojo on Monday! You can go ahead and start checking it out here: www.classdojo.com I will send home a sheet Monday to tell you how to sign up! Extra P.E. Coach F is super great and does an extra P.E. once a week for each class. Our extra P.E. will be on Mondays this year and our regular, full P.E. class on Thursdays.Students need to have tennis shoes for both P.E. classes. Transportation: Just a reminder that if your child is going home a different way than they normally do, you must send a note with your child. You may also email me no later than 3:00, or call the office. It can get a little crazy at the end of the day. All of this is to ensure the safety of your child. Friday Shirt Reminder: Don't forget that T-Shirt orders and money are due Friday, August 19th. I'm looking forward to a great week!!!! I officially have a case of the first day jitters...but in a good way! I am SO excited to get this year started! I enjoyed talking to each and every kiddo and parent last night! I know we are going to have such a great year!
If you were unable to come last night, I missed you and can't wait to meet you! I will send home mandatory paperwork on Thursday. Please fill it out and send it back to school with your child as soon as possible. I have attached the link to a little survey HERE. Many of you filled out the "sign in sheet" but it may have been overlooked! I kept talking instead of reminding parents to sign it! ;) It's a few questions and the important part is letting me know how your child is getting home the first day of school and the rest of the year. I didn't realize the one I used was missing the first day information, so even if you filled out the one in the classroom, if you could do this very short one as well, that would be great! Tomorrow or Friday, I will be sending a blog about some classroom simple classroom information. So be on the lookout for that! Last but not least, if there is anyone who would like to be our "Homeroom Parent" , we are in need of someone to do that! If you would just like to help with class parties, let me know and I can add you to the list! I am looking forward to an AMAZING year! I can't wait to see everyone tomorrow and kick off third grade! Sleep well!!!! It's hard to believe but the new school year is upon us! I hope you all had a wonderful summer! I spent my days of summer with our two children, Olivia and Luke. We kicked off the summer by heading down to Florida and spending some time at Disney. We also did a lot of playing, reading, and swimming! I can't wait to hear how everyone spent their summer and most of all, I can't wait for the experiences we will all have together this year in 3rd Grade!!!!

Pool Party! The Willard East Back to School Pool Party is TOMORROW NIGHT from 6:30-8:30 at the Willard Rec. Center. Unfortunately, I won't be able to be there but I am SO excited to see and meet everyone Tuesday evening!!! Meet the Teacher Night- Meet the Teacher Night will be on Tuesday, August 9th from 6:00-7:00. This is a great chance to come and see our classroom and meet new friends, your teacher for the year (!!!), and find your seat. Students are also welcome to bring their supplies. This is not only convenient for the student so they aren't lugging all of that stuff in their bag the first day but it also allows the teachers a day before school starts to get some of the supplies organized for the year! Supplies can be labeled with their names. We will label subjects on folders and notebooks the first day of school. Through the year, I will use our class blog to update you on upcoming events and what we're doing in the classroom. I will always send the link through SIS (our student information system) and it will go to your email. If you need anything, please feel free to contact me. Teachers are back Monday but will be in and out of meetings. The best way to get a hold of me is by email: [email protected]. I'm looking forward to a great year! See you on Tuesday, August 9th! |
