I hope everyone has had a wonderful week! We had a pretty fun Friday! Our class had some great looking mismatched outfits and earned the extra P.E. with Coach J for next week, got to do our first KidBlog post in the computer lab, did some fun science experiments for a tiger token reward (**See pics in the post below this one**), AND topped it off with Tiger Pride!
Remember, there is NO SCHOOL for students on Monday. Writing- For writing this week and next week our focus is on using voice in writing. This week, students identified different emotions and started to explore ways to express those without just saying "I felt so happy, scared, sad" and so on. Next week, we will be looking at using dilogue in our writing to express our voice. Reading- This week, we went over classroom and school expectations, as well as revisited our expectations for Daily 5 and built stamina to read, write, or do word work for 20 minutes. Next week, reading groups will resume and we will be back in the routine. Math- The ever awaited multiplication unit was started this week We looked at equal groupings and started to notice that multiplication is the fast way of doing repeated addition Next week, we will start looking at multiplication and it's relationship to skip counting. Social Studies- We will begin a new unit on economics. Students will get the chance to take part in a classroom economy where they will recieve money for doing their "job". (Being at school on time, turning in homework, working quietly, etc) They will also have to "owe" these Tiger Bucks to pay taxes or do other small tasks during the day. At the end of our unit, we will have a sale where students can buy various items with the money they have. They will have a selection of needs and wants and will have to make the choice on what they should buy. If you have any household items you are looking to get rid of or would like to send in a small donation, we will be needing them for our class store and would greatly appreciate the donation. Small toys that aren't played with, leftover candy from the holidays or that you see on sale at a store, or small $1 items you often see at the checkout line or store , cans of soda (yes, soda), school supplies like crayons, scissors, penicls or pencil sharpeners. Just send them in with your child or drop them by school. Thank you in advance! I hope everyone has a great weekend! See you TUESDAY!
