Whew! What a crazy time of year! The days and weeks seem to just fly by right now and I don't see it slowing down anytime soon!
Reading- We will begin DRA testing this week! I have also started a "Girls Group" during guided reading. Our Guided Reading Library happened to have just enough "Little House in the Ozarks" books for our girls. (Boys shouldn't be offended. I didn't think that they would enjoy this as much as the girls. I'm working on finding a "boyish" type book they might enjoy. Plus, we have a few more boys than we do girls) It just seemed like something fun to help wrap the year up and learn a little about the Ozarks and a connection to two famous Missourians who loved to write and wrote books we have all loved to read! Writing- We took our last writing prompt on today. On Friday, we thoroughly went over the scoring guide and talked about what exactly our writing should look like to master the writing standards. Tuesday we will be gone and we will get back to our fairy tales on Wednesday. Math- We have already gotten back into the swing of things with measurement. Last week, we reviewed and worked on elapsed time, finding the starting time and finding the ending time. This week, students will learn about perimeter and area and understand that rectangles can have the same perimeter and different areas or the same area and different perimeters. Science- Thursday, we enjoyed a little activity our kiddos did while participating in the Willard Math Challenge this past weekend. Teams had 5 minutes to build a tower out of marshmallows and toothpicks. Whoever had the tower that stood the tallest at the end of 5 minutes won the challenge! We had A LOT of fun, plus it was a great team building activity! Here is what is coming up: *Field Trip TOMORROW! Look at the previous post for more field trip info! A reminder went home today about with some quick information about tomorrow!** -Wear tennis shoes,Friday shirts, bring a sack lunch and sunblock (or wear it). We will be outside ALL day. - We will leave school at approximately 8:45ish. If you are attending, feel free to follow the bus or meet us at Frontier Theater. (See previous post. Scroll down on the "flier" posted. We will return by 2:00 pm. (Leaving Marshfield around 1:00pm) **I realized after the notes were printed and passed out that it says "Wear your read shirt". You may be scared thinking about my grammar/spelling and who has been teaching your child all year. I promise. I can spell "red". It was a nice mini-lesson on why we can't always trust technology to catch our mistakes because mine was NOT caught! ;) *Kindergarten screening is Wednesday, May 7th if you have a little one who will be 5 before August 1. Call the office to schedule a time. *Field Day is Tuesday, May 27. More information will come as we get closer!
