Good evening! Things remain to be great in room 403 as travel further into the school year!
Things are really taking off in math. We started this new unit off doing multiplication and this week, we have been doing division. Here are a few Learn Zillion Videos that you and your child can watch that have to do with what our standards are that we have been covering this week. Multiplication facts, Multiplication Facts, MULTIPLICATION FACTS! Be sure that your child is practicing these EVERY NIGHT. THIS should be their homework each night. It can be a 15-20 minute practice before bed, while you make dinner, while you drive in the car, etc. They HAVE to practice these at home to be successful with using multiplication. We will not stop and learn set by set (i.e. all of the 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's...etc) like 3rd and 4th graders used to once upon a time (like when I was in 3rd grade!). As mentioned, we have already moved onto division and these standards will be much easier to master if your child knows their facts Reading- Many students have expressed that they would like to be able to do Raz-kids at home and listen to books! It's fun and it's a great way to keep reading! Go to Raz-Kids.com. Our username is Willardeast3b. We started reading groups this week and our Daily 5 rotation. Be sure to read every night at home. So many kids LOVE reading and do on their own. Be sure to make it a part of your routine. Tiger Pride- Our first Tiger Pride is tomorrow. Students will get their t-shirts at school so that we all have them on for a class picture tomorrow. The actual assembly begins at 2:30. Feel free to come and celebrate our accomplishments and being a tiger! Peguins- Be sure to send in your child's coupon of "how many items sold". This is how they will get their single penguins. The families (should you sell that much) will be awarded after the fundraisers are collected and passed out with the other prizes. All fundraiser orders and the money for the orders is due NEXT Friday, October 4th. OPEN HOUSE- Open house is Monday evening! Come and see what we have been up to, sign up for parent/teacher conferences, visit the special class teachers, get a hot dog dinner, and visit the Book Fair! Principle Miller will also be giving short informational meetings on standards based grading for our new report cards. Open house will be from 6:00-7:30. The cost of the hot dog/hamburger, chips and a drink is $5. Below is a link to the Willard East Website for more information. http://willardeastelementary.edublogs.org/ I think that is all! Have a wonderful evening!
