Welcome back from spring break! I think we got the best end of the deal having spring break with near summer temps and weather. I hope everyone got a chance to do some fun activities outside.
If you were concerned that your child came home last night empty handed, with no grade card, I apologize. I had to leave early yesterday due to hurting my back. They were left out, but my sub plans were not my usual, so the poor sub who rushed to my rescue had no way to know. All I need is a signature on the back page and to have it returned Don't forget tomorrow are our spring pictures. Everyone will have their pictures taken and you will have the option to buy and keep the ones you like. When you get them, if you aren't satisfied, just send the complete pack back to school and there is no charge. Whatever you keep will have to be purchased. M.A.P. Testing is just around the corner. This is a state standardized test that all third grade students in Missouri take. There are things you can do at home to help provide practice throughout a normal day. *Allow opportunities to count money, estimate cost of things and make change up to $5.00. *Tell time to the nearest 5 minute interval, estimate how long something will take (car ride to school, soccer practice), discuss elapsed time. *Compare and contrast things; two books, summer and winter, two movies, anything. *Give facts and opinions about things; McDonald’s french fries, baseball, Spongebob Squarepants, again anything. *Add, Subtract and Multiply; ages of family members, numbers from street signs, again anything. Make estimations and predictions; weight of produce at the grocery store, time the sun will set, the ending of a book, how many miles to school, again just about anything. Just squeezing in a few of these for a minute or two a day is a great reinforcement and encouragement to your child. Have Fun! Last but not least, we are working hard on our scientist and inventor projects. Students have found a lot of information at school but will be bringing these home if they need some extra information off the internet or to look at another library. I have given each student a file folder to keep it all together and organized. All research is due back APRIL 2nd. I think that is all for this week! Have a wonderful week!
